I cannot believe my baby boys are another year older. Sadly they are not really babies any longer but they will always be in my eyes! On Wednesday June 6th, my love bugs turned 3 years old and do not act it, rather appear older. Jack and Zach love, I mean LOVE to help. I am completely amazed at the little men they are becoming, and have all the faith in the world this next year will bring plenty of excitement as each year has thus far. It is no surprise these two boys mean the world to me and I absolutely love their sense of compassion for their Mommy. I must ask for a kiss a zillion times a day and never once do they say no. Their warmth and sensitivity to other children also brings the biggest smile to my face. Jack will always go up to kids he knows (and those he doesn’t know) and say Hi, and if the opportunity is there he will ALWAYS rub their back and say Hi; very outgoing. Zach has become my more sensitive and emotional little guy. Zach is the little boy that would rather sit on your lap and watch a movie vs sit in his rocking chair, and will always want to know your whereabouts. As of now their personalities of what we see today I feel are starting to stick with them longer and longer. Whereas when they were younger it appeared they would switch back and forth. Reflecting on this past year, the boys have certainly satisfied many milestones and experienced a lot of ups and downs, but most importantly were able to experience a lot of positive events while exploring life this past year. While thinking about the boys, I have to say that one awesome advantage of age 3 is one step closer to full independence. They are also great at recalling events more and more. As they remember events that recently happened they will also get animated and tell a story. I am impressed with their verbal skills and how they tell stories. I feel that as each day passes they are saying SO MUCH whether broken or complete sentences. Additionally I am amazed at how quickly they can pick up on tasks that are new to them. They definitely are quick to comprehend “things” but we knew this about them even when they were babies. They truly do amaze me each and every single day! They are strong, independent boys and they never let anything stand in their way or bring them down.
For their birthday, we opted to not have a large party this year. We felt it was not entirely important to do so and invited the immediate family over for a more intimate celebration. With my Mom in town I have been able to enjoy a few extra days off work and planned it so one of my days off would fall on their birthday.
To help kick off an exciting day we made our first stop at Fire Station #50 in San Clemente. The firefighters LOVED talking to the boys and showing them the equipment and trucks. The boys were on cloud 9. A huge and special thank you to Captain Harris for leading the way during our visit. You made my boys' smile even bigger. After we spent a good amount of time visiting the fire station we made our way down to the beach. We ate lunch at Fisherman's and then played for a little in the sand, watched three trains go by, the boys ended up swinging for a little at the playground, and dipped our toes in the water. :) We did get splashed by a wave larger than we thought and we were a bit shocked but SO much fun. Jack was nervous because he knew that he didn't have his swimsuit on and his shorts got drenched. We told him next time we will be better prepared but you have to love spontaneous acts! :) CA almost feels like you are on vacation when down at the beach. We eventually made our way home for nap time. Steve was home around 4:00 and shortly thereafter his parents so we could continue the celebration. Although Steve was at work, I really enjoyed being able to spend this special day with my love bugs. The boys napped a little longer but after they woke up, greeted by all of us, they were excited to start opening up all their presents and did they make out. The boys got a lot of new clothes, shoes, a new pool with a slide, scooters, play-doh to add to their collection, books, toys (weed whackers/fire trucks that squirt water, stickers, art smocks, paint, more chalk, and finally helmets so we are now officially safe...wink wink.
