I was very excited to see my mom and the boys had the best time playing and laughing with her. We kept her busy during her trip but not that busy. With the boys home now I limited my time away from the office and she was able to spend some time with Cheyenne, getting to know her. We have been very impressed with Cheyenne. She gives it her all each day. You definitely can tell she takes her role seriously. I was off on M-W-F, which was perfect.
We all went together to the airport last Saturday to pick my mom up and the boys had an amazing time walking around John Wayne Airport. I love our airport; very clean and easy to navigate around. It was great seeing the boys get very excited. I spotted my mom stepping onto the escalator and I had to tell Jack to wait for me to say go because of security. As soon as I said go he ran to Nana. The boys helped getting Nana's suitcase and then we were off. We had plans to go out to dinner but her plane was delayed by a half hour. Since I knew the boys would be hyped up on energy we went back to our house and ordered Chinese and let the boys have as much fun as they could with Nana before bed.
Sunday we went to the Irvine Railroad / OC Zoo. This was my mom's first trip to the zoo and she really enjoyed her time. We have to kick off every visit by riding the train. We were the first in line again and that means we were able to sit behind the Engineer! Fabulous times. The boys love the petting zoo and this time they decided to take part in brushing the goat's fur. I think what they enjoy the most is having the bigger goats eat out of their hands. I love seeing their faces light up with excitement! Later in the evening Steve's parents stopped over to babysit so we could take my mom out to dinner. We went into Dana Point Harbor to a new place we have been wanting to visit, Wind and Sea. It was okay but I would not trip over myself to get back anytime soon. :) Turks, where we venture off to breakfast on occasion is just down the boardwalk. Rumor has it our bartender friend from Zona's, Eric, now works at Turks. We were thrilled to learn he was working that night so we stopped in for a night cap. It was great to see him and catch up.
Monday I denoted as sightseeing day followed by a great lunch, and my mom coming with me to get my hair done. I had some errands to run while Cheyenne was with the boys. I took my mom over to the mall so I could get some necessities for our family photo shoot and then we had lunch at our favorite location. Take a guess...YEP - PF Changs. Yummy. My mom was a trooper while hanging out at The Beauty Studio in Newport Beach while I was getting my hair done. We made it home in time for dinner and enjoyed a lot of playtime with our boys.
Tuesday she was able to spend most of the day with Cheyenne and the boys. It is always great when she is able to do this because I know she excited to spend a lot of time with the boys not to mention I know Cheyenne likes the extra set of hands. We kept it low key on the home front and knew we had an exciting day ahead of us.
Wednesday my boys had turned "3" and I have the details of that very SPECIAL DAY in a different post, Click Here. I am happy that we are able to fly my mom out so she can be part of all the excitement that includes a trip to Fire Station #50, opening of the presents, followed by eating cake.
Thursday she was kept busy running around at home again with Cheyenne and the boys. They enjoy going to the park and happy we have a lot options close to home.
Friday came way too fast but we enjoyed our last 1:1 day. I took my mom to Cafe Mimosa for breakfast located in down town San Clemente. Seating is primarily outdoors but no fear they have outdoor heaters and we did need them since we are in the heart of June gloom. I love the restaurant and look forward to going back. Soon after we made our way down to the beach and opted to sight see and of course shop. I was excited to learn Beach Fire was back in business after shutting down for a few weeks. I took my mom there for lunch and it was so good...just as good as I remember. The boys had their 3 year old well check up that afternoon. My mom was able to lend a helping hand, not that it was needed really. The boys were so good. AND no shots until they turn 4. I was thrilled that my suspicisions were correct about not getting shots this time around; however, part of me was sad because it is just another reminder of how big they are getting. :( Dr. Abelowitz was great with them and was very happy they were doing much better and we are meeting each and every single milestone. This is the age that we can start getting them exposed to seeing the dentist. Time to make that appointment. Dr. Abelowitz asked how tall I was and how tall Steve was. He instantly responded that our boys could grow up to 6 feet tall, possibly 6'1" - Great tallness! The boys are equal in height, standing 39 inches tall. Jack is slightly heavier than Zach, weighing in at 31lbs. Zacharoo weighs in at 30.2. It is nice to see he has gained the weight back he lost when he was sick. We were in and out in less than an hour and I could not have been more proud of them. Steve made arrangements to have Nikki over to watch the boys so we could take my mom out to dinner one last time.
My mom had a busy Saturday as she was booked on the first flight out of John Wayne so she was up and ready to go at 5:15am. She arrived back in Chicago safe and sound. We had a busy day ourselves that included family pictures on Riveria Beach in San Clemente. They boys did amazingly well and I cannot wait to see the pictures. I think our photographer, Kailee, got some good ones of just me and Steve [I sure hope]. It was a little breezy on the beach so I just envision hair blowing. As she said...thank goodness for photo shop. HA. Our membership with Penny's expired and since we moved to CA I have always wanted to have pictures taken of us as a family on the beach. I know she got a ton of the boys and I am on pins and needles waiting to see how they turned out! That will be another couple of weeks. Later that evening we had Nikki come back over to babysit so we could go out to dinner, 370common,in Laguna Beach with Steve's parents for his birthday. Yes, a delayed celebration but worth it and we had a great time. This was the first time Nikki put the boys to bed and they did a great job for her.
We are back to business as usual with a busy week, getting back into the swing of things with work and routines. I am most excited for my boys as I could not be more proud of them...meeting new milestones and being the big boys they are. I feel like since they turned "3" they have changed so much in a short amount of time. I feel equally blessed that we have been able to work through some larger than life milestones and the boys are doing so AWESOME.
Mom/Nana, we cannot wait to see you in December! Here are some wonderful moments captured of Nana Smith's visit!
