As the evening was coming to an end, we got the boys in their Christmas jammies and talked about what will happen in the morning. They helped us put milk out on the mantle and said nighty night to the house. As soon as they were tucked into their big boy bed we made a mad dash to the kitchen and living room to begin setting up. I was exhausted. Steve and I have been really drained lately and a lot has to do with having multiples that are 2 1/2 transitioning to "big boy" beds. Put a fork in me because I am done! :) Steve got the presents under the tree and I made Santa's snack...Santa hat brownies. Picky I swear! Just could not have the traditional sugar cookies. HA. In any event Christmas morning was upon us.
Steve and I woke up about 6:30 to get the house in tip top shape. I brewed the mojo, we both freshened up, and made sure that everything was perfect. This was the boys' first Christmas where they actually got out of their own bed and walked downstairs. Their faces were magical. It was magical. Jack instantly saw the fireman hats sitting perfectly under the tree not to mention he looked at the mantle and said, milk. I totally forgot as Steve did but by golly it was empty. That Little boy remembered we poured milk for Santa and the glass was empty. Crazy. We had such an amazing morning. They boys listened to everything we had to say. They were not allowed to open up presents until we changed diapers and they had their milk on standby. They also had to wear their Santa hats while opening up presents, which was too cute. So, I will admit it now because it is VERY hard to tell them apart when the hats are on so I might not remember who was who in a couple of photos. :) As soon as we said okay, they got right to it. It was really cute because Jack would pick up one of Zach's present and say, Z and give it to his brother. They did this a lot and makes us very proud they know their own name and ABCs.
Santa brought the boys quite a few monster trucks, books, new shoes, a train for their set, more Lego blocks, train whistle, a slinky that they love, fire trucks and hats, and old school Elmo metal lunch tins (the idea is for their coloring crayons). *I might be missing one item. :) We didn't go crazy this year because they get really excited and it can be a lot of stimulation so we toned it down this year. Next year might be a different story. Steve and I decided to exchange gifts this year. We never really did and I don't think we did when we dated but this was the year. I got a Michael Kors tortoise colored watch that I have been wanting. Anyone that knows me understands that I LOVE watches. I also got a Michael Kors purse, a couple of pairs of boots, and a couple of sweaters. Steve got new Reef leather sandals, a couple of Tommy Bahama shirts, and two nice casual button up shirts. They are awesome!
After we opened up presents Steve cooked us up an eggs and bacon kinda of breakfast. The boys loved playing with their new firetrucks and slinky. I got ready and then we headed over to Nana and Papa's house for our gathering. The boys wore their Santa hat all morning while they opened up presents and so they wanted to wear them on the way over to Nana and Papa's. Too much fun. Right away they saw all the presents and wanted to start digging in and opening up presents. They got trains to add to their collection on top of clothes and other toys. They had a blast. Shortly thereafter we had an early dinner; Steve's favorite...ham! :)
We got cleaned up and the boys got in the spa with Papa and Daddy. I was able to take a lot of good pictures of the boys playing in the spa. Nana heated it up so it was toasty warm. Although the sun always feels much warmer than actual temperatures. It can get chilly by early afternoon. They played in the spa probably for about goodness I want to say 45 minutes. We got out, although Zach did not want to take his swimming shorts off. Clearly the signs of lack of nap the past three days...yep will explain, are hitting the boys! We eventually got him calm in about 10 minutes and off we were playing. We had a little snack. Nana and Papa were going to take the boys to the park, which is literally 1 minute. Steve and I were going to hang back and rest but Zacharoo wanted Mama to join and I was okay with that. I am happy I did. It was a hoot watching the boys interact with a little girl named Sophia who was 6 years old. She lives across the street and really enjoyed playing with the boys. They played tag, played chef, and yep...played more tag. The boys were exhausted from chasing her and as she ran by me she yelled, "I know how you feel". It was freaking funny! Welcome to my world, Sophia. Wink Wink. :) I told her I need a little girl like her starting at 1pm...tire the boys out and maybe they will get used to nap time in their big boy bed. HA.
We parted ways with Sophia and she really wants to play with the boys again so we will most likely see her Monday when we have Christmas with Uncle Gregg. We finished up the night by having some appetizers, Nana gave the boys a bath, and we were able (well Steve) to watch most of the Bears game. One word...disappointing. :) The boys started to pass out on our drive home, but thankfully our commute is not that long and we got the kiddos tucked in bed!
We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy [and bright] New Year! We have so much to be thankful for and enjoyed every minute of our holiday adventure!
