New Home
As I briefly noted in one of my last posts, I mentioned that we are unpacked and settled. What a long and exciting journey this has been. I can say that it has been exciting driving home from work, walking into our house with our own things again. The days and weeks leading up to the move were a bit crazy and stressful to say the least. Over time we were slowly packing up the apartment. We offically moved into our house the weekend of Jan. 15th. We kept getting conflicting information that the movers would arrive early Monday morning. Bummed of course because I was taking Monday off of work and wanted that day to try to get most things organized...what was I thinking. To back up a moment, I found out that Steve would be out of town on business during the time the movers were expected to arrive. Talk about timing. We received a call earlier that weekend from the driver that they were making good time and would be at our house on Sunday, a day earlier...YIPPY. Nope, not happening. We get a call Sunday indicating there were mechanical issues and most likely would not show up until Monday, the original plan. Great, I am thinking. Partly upset, a lot of different emotions. I think I was more upset that I would not have our king size bed that I was missing for months! :) In any event, Monday is upon us, no husband to help, but thank goodness we had cousin Phyl come by to help route the men to the proper room, etc. It was great to have her there. Needless to say it was quite a hectic day trying to direct 4 men, wait doesn't sound that bad. HA! I think I managed okay given the cirumstances. Thanks to Phyl she asked me for my camera to capture these moments. The movers were all very friendly and had a lot of fun. It sort of was like Christmas for me because it had been quite a few months of not having our belongings, so it was great to watch them unload the truck. The day truned out perfect too. It was dreary and raining almost every day for just about a week, so it was great to have blue skies and 70 degree temps. Although it got a bit stormy when it came time to check the furniture for damage. Urgh. I would say that almost every piece was slightly damaged, but not bad (minor scratches...BUT) with the exception of our dining room table, which is my pride and joy. I love our set and so when I kept seeing one mark after the next, I think I turned almost every shade of red. The one item that I wanted delivered with no marks...Oh well. Not much control over a move I guess. The movers were all gone by Noon, or 1pm and Phyl took me out to lunch. We went to Nicks in downtown San Clemente. What a great place, and I look forward to many more visits. As soon as I got home I greeted my boys and I started to vacumn and unpack boxes. Steve was not expected home until late Tuesday so I did what I could. That week we unpacked like crazy, got our kitchen counter tops, and bathroom counter tops. By the end of week one we finally had a full functioning house. I think all that we have left to do is organize closests, oh and get my workout room in order. Steve just has to put trim up around the kitchen window, but we will eventually get there. I am in the process of taking photos of our house in tip top shape showing the post remodel, so stay tuned. The only pictures I have right now are with the movers. Enjoy! I hope to have additional pictures posted by this weekend. Steve and I have been carpooling, which has been great. There is probably one day a week that we drive solo, but not too often. It is great...I have a driver! The boys are diggin their new place. Although they did have a week where they were adjusting to a new house, new sounds, etc. They did not sleep all that well for the first couple of days. Now, they are back to their old routine! I love it, knock on wood. They are doing well with stairs, better than I expected, since they have never been exposed to houses (even our own) where we had to climb up and down stairs. They are good about not playing on the stairs either, that I was nervous about---they must be listening. :) The boys made a new friend one house down from us, Evan (also 20 months and his bday is just a couple days before the boys). They all look similar...toad heads and blue eyes. Evan has a 10 year old sister, Olivia. She is such a great helper and I tell her Mom, Melissa, that I need an Olivia. It is great to see the boys interact with another boy their age. There are many times that I would like to put them in daycare for the interaction with kids, but then I check myself and realize that we are fortunate they have each other and a nanny that comes to our house. I do look forward to putting them in school part time, as I want them to get that experience. In due time I suppose. In any event, we look forward to many social gatherings.
