Grandma Smith

A lot has happened since our last post, and yes, completely behind with updates yet again, but "A" for effort. I cannot believe how fast time has flown by...I feel like I am starting to sound like a broken record. One minute I am planning for my Mom's visit, the next minute it is Thanksgiving (which was around my Mom's birthday BTW..again, Happy Birthday Mom! We love you.), and now she was here and back home--Goodness!

Yep, my mom was able to come out and visit for week. I greeted her on Tuesday, December 7th at John Wayne. It helped that we were able to skype the Sunday prior to her arrival because when we walked in the boys had a huge smile on their face. It made my mom feel special too since we obviously do not get to see her often and well, the boys do not get to hang out with Grandma as much as we would like given our move. In any event, I had to work Wednesday and Thursday, which was fine. She got to hang out with Karley (boys' nanny) and play all day. I was able to schedule some fun things to do while she was here.

Wednesday, December 8th
We started her trip out by going to Fish Camp in Huntington Beach. Yummy. We sat on their porch and had one of the best dinners! The place is comfy cozy and learned that the best time to eat there is during the weeknight; not so crowded as it usally is over the weekend. We ordered this shrimp dish with rice mixture. Steve ordered fish and chips and that was just as tasty. It was a little cold that evening, but they have heat lamps hanging from their retractable roof so we were still able to enjoy the patio. We then headed for home to relieve our "weekend" babysitter. We enjoyed our patio for a little and then went to bed since I had just one more day of work before my long weekend.

Thursday, December 9th
When Steve and I got home from work, we made our way over to his Cousin Phyl's house. We arrived a little later than expected.
(I have to sneak in a congrats to Steve because one of his bosses called him in for an impromptu meeting to say what a great job he has been doing since he started in August. Steve has taken on different responsibilites and that night he got a raise and bonus. Again, each day we are thankful that after taking a big chance in leaving our family and friends, that his job is working out GREAT!)
Once we arrived, she took us out on her Duffy (electric boat) and we cruised around Huntington Beach Harbor looking at the houses neatly decorated, and preparing us for the Holiday Boat Parade over the weekend. Phyl also made this awesome chicken dinner...delicious! After a few hours of us hanging out, we headed home. We tried to stay up a little bit to unwind and talk, but after all three of us yawning and big efforts to stay awake, we all decided to hit the hay.

Friday, December 10th
Before you know it Friday came around and I was off for a 4 day weekend. I took my mom into Laguna Beach. We went to Las Brisas for lunch, followed by walking along the coastline for some shopping. It was foggy and a bit brisk that day, but it was great to explore the cute shops. We saw so many cute things, but priorities kick in knowing Christmas was quickly approaching, not to mention we were getting ready to close on our house and start purchasing the items for our remodel. We ended our day in Laguna by visiting Starbucks for coffee. We went back to the apartment to freshen up and then made our way to the Rusty Pelican for another wonderful dinner. Instead of getting another babysitter, Steve said he would stay home with the boys so I could have a nice dinner with my mom. We got this awesome Mahi Mahi dinner, delicious cheesy garlic bread, and wonderful calamari. The Rusty is located on the harbor of Newport Beach. We were able to get a window seat so we watched the decorated boats (for the Holiday Boat Parade) go by.

Saturday, December 11th
We decided to just hang out and enjoy the day since we were getting ready to attend Phyl's boat parade party at 3:30. Oops, earlier that day we met everyone at our new house to do the final walk thru since the tenets are no longer living there. I have to say I felt a lot of excitment as we pulled up and saw the "SOLD" sign displayed. My mom got to see the house before the remodel and so it will be great to have her back to see the house once it is all done. Advancing to the evening, we had so much fun at the boat parade. My mom got to meet some of the family that resides in the area. We had a lot of wonderful good treats, not to mention some tasty wine! :) We saw some great boats neatly decorated for the parade. The theme for this year was I believe 'county', incorporating cowboy boots in their decorations. After the parade we all had dinner. Phyl made 4 different soups followed by good desserts. After hanging out, we headed for home to rest up. Steve and I were taking the boys Sunday morning for their annual holiday photo session. At first I didn't think we would make it. My little Zacharoo woke up around 2:30 crying hysterically which lasted for about 2 hours. We were not sure what was happening, but during that time we got him to eat some food. You would have thought he didn't eat for days. I have to give our Nanny Karley a lot of credit and I am so proud of her.  She has been teaching the boys sign language. When I was feeding Zach, I would ask him if he wanted more blueberries. I noticed he kept doing something with his hands. I finally realized what he was doing; he was signing "more". I almost lost it! I was so proud of her and Zach. I have to give credit to Jack---the boy can pretty much sleep thru anything; must get it from me. Yep, I will sleep thru tornado sirens; no I am not proud!

Sunday, December 12th
Rise and shine...we got the boys breakfast and we made our way to Pennys (see photos below). My mom stayed back to get ready and I am sure it was a nice break for her too since we were up the night before with Zacharoo! Our pictures went better than expected. Although our window of opportunity is closing in the more active they become. We decided to hang out that day since we were out and about almost the entire time my mom was in town. Steve and I did have a moment to swing by my bosses house as she was hosting her annual holiday party on Sunday. Steve got to meet her as well as most of the folks I work with. It was a nice visit.

Merry Christmas, Love Jack and Zach

Monday, December 13th
Monday I had off and so I took my mom into Newport Beach to have lunch at PF Changs. Goody Gum Drop! It was a bright and sunny day and so we were able to see Catalina Island from our seat.  After lunch we headed over to the Spectrum to shop. From there we made our way home and hung out for the rest of the day. I made my homemade spaghetti dinner and enjoyed our last night together. What a great day too because the weather turned warm, reaching about 75 during the day.

Tuesday, December 14th
I cannot believe her trip has come to end! Steve dropped her off at John Wayne! We had a great time and we could not have asked for better weather. We miss her already but looking foward to her next visit!

She also brought some gifts for the boys and do they love it all! XO

Rockers and Elmo Slipper (there is also a toy box that matches the chairs)
